What can you do to show, i.e. demonstrate in real life situations, that you are a "Go-Getter" and will perform well at a position?
In his book "The Entrepreneur Rollercoaster", Darren Hardy talks about how excellent employees end up being "free" because they more than pay for themselves in the value they bring to the company. When employers hire people, they are looking for solutions to their needs, and to meet deadlines. You can establish your credibility as an excellent employee by anticipating the needs of your future company. This can be displayed in the content of your resume and in the attitude you show by your actions.
Before submitting a candidate we always ask questions such as "What is your availability?", "Are you planning any trips, or are there any other situations coming up which might affect your ability to get started or do your job, should you be hired?". Letting an employer know about situations in advance really helps to make things go smoothly. e.g. "Just so you know, this candidate has a 3 week trip planned on [DATES]". Employers immediately start formulating plans to work around the situation. However, if this information is revealed after the employee has been hired, it can cause tension because expectations have been set. It's not a great way to start off a relationship.
Candidates should not rely on recruiters and employers to do the thinking for them. If you are an out-of-town/country candidate you have the opportunity to solve all of the employers logistical challenges in advance. This can include a clear plan of exactly how long it will take you to re-locate, where you are going to stay, and what documentation is needed for you and the employer. This may require researching websites, making phone calls, downloading forms, understanding processes. e.g. "I will send you a step by step process of what to do. There are two forms to fill out, which I understand and I can help with. This will produce such-and-such a result.... These are the responsibilities. Here is an explanation of what to do should things not work out.... this is how long everything takes..". In this way the challenge of hiring a candidate at a distance becomes almost effortless.
If you want to understand more about the mentality of getting things done, the book "The Go-Getter" by Peter B. Kyne, is an excellent introduction.
