An excellent way to start off the description for each position in your resume is to paint a picture of your work environment, and your activity in that environment ( "Setting The Scene" ). This gives the reader a high-level understanding of how you might fit in to a position, and your potential value.
Most candidates provide no information on their work environment. Some candidates provide inappropriate information, and very few provide useful information for the reader. Here is an example of what useful information looks like:
Jan 2019 - Dec 2019 - XYZ Co - Full Stack Software Developer / Team Lead Worked as a contractor in a corporate office of 48 employees for an international software consulting company of 500. Led a team of 4-5 C# ASP.Net software developers in an IT department of 30 resources. Reported to one of 4 local project managers and interacted with a remote development team (10 developers) and their project manager in the USA.
This kind of description paints a picture of the candidate's working environment, the relationship with management, and the scale of their abilities, communication skills, and responsibilities.
An inappropriate way of introducing a position is for the candidate to talk about the company rather than their activities. e.g.
***Incorrect Example*** Jan 2019 - Dec 2019 - XYZ Mfg Co - Full Stack Software Developer / Team Lead XYZ is a rapidly growing successful technology company, boasting sales of over $80 million with an annual growth of 10% for the last 5 years we made the Forbes list of one of the most desirable employers of 2018. ***Incorrect Example***
This ***Incorrect Example*** description comes across as an advertisement of a company and provides no information to display the value of the candidate.
