People rise to their level of ability with ease, even though it requires effort. To move to higher ground, may require a level of knowledge and understanding obtainable only through selected relationships and mentorship. If you seek this kind of situation, you are definitely among a small percentage of the population who are willing to change. Change introduces a series of challenges and shifts in thinking experienced by achievers.
In his successful book 'Rich Dad Poor Dad,' Robert Kiyosaki shares valuable insights about this, particularly in Chapter 1. Kiyosaki recounts his personal journey under the guidance of his business mentor, 'Rich Dad,' who initially infuriated him by placing him in a low-paying position, and deliberately ignoring him because of his unwillingness to learn. This experience compelled Kiyosaki, if he wanted to be successful, to seek harder for the knowledge he needed. His journey required leaving his entitlement attitudes behind in favor of generating income through his untapped imagination. He realized the solutions could only stem from his own initiative to open himself to learn from successful people. No one was going make, or pay for, his attitude change and study habits for him.
What is the incentive to go through these challenges?
The prospect of a better financial outcome, ownership, the security of being in charge of your future, and maximizing your potential. A shift in attitude and mindset serves as a fundamental aspect of the transition and lays the groundwork for personal, family, and business success.
In my own case, I was part of a small company, and worked in business development and project management. The owner moved out of the country, forcing me to be very actively involved in the decisions I had already made for business ownership. I associated with other business owners and took mentorship. It was humbling to realize I had so much to learn, that my ego had held me back, and I had wasted so much time thinking I was doing okay. The challenges were significant, but I would never have had the family and happiness I have today without making the transition.
